The Avengers Smashes Weekend Box Office Record With $200.3 Million Opening!

Living up to its hype, The Avengers movie broke a box office record this weekend with an amazing opening!

The movie, which stars Scarlett Johansson, Chris Hemsworth and Chris Evans, debuted over the weekend to the tune of $200.3 million. In fact the movie broke the previous opening weekend records set by Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2‘s to become the biggest opening film ever.

Coming in second was Think Like a Man, earning a nice $8 million in its third week in theaters. In third place was The Hunger Games, with $5.7 million.

Zac Efron‘s romantic drama The Lucky One, earning $5.5 million, came in fourth, and kid movie The Pirates! Band of Misfits, with $5.1 million, came in fifth place.
