Inside Ann Curry and Matt Lauer’s Feud! Matt “100 Percent” Wanted Her Fired

You could cut the tension with a knife during Ann Curry’s last day with NBC’s The Today Show.

After Ann, 55, announced her departure from the morning show, she hugged her co-hosts Al Roker and Natalie Morales, but when it came time to hug Matt Lauer, she would not look at him. And when Matt went in for a kiss, she refused to turn toward him.

She had good reason. For months now, several media outlets had reported Matt, 54, did not like Ann as his co-host and was urging NBC to fire her. Us Weekly is also confirming the rumors are indeed true in their latest issue.

“Matt Lauer is 100 percent behind Ann leaving,” a source reveals to Us Weekly. In fact, in the days leading up to her emotional departure, Ann and Matt “were really icy to each other, and she refused to speak to him all week.”

As for why Matt wanted Ann fired, it was because the ratings for ‘Today’ took a dip this year and he believed she was to blame.

“The body language was extremely tense,” the insider continues.  A second source adds that Ann’s last day “was like a funeral in a way.”

Savannah Guthrie has since been named Ann’s replacement, though the THR reports the ratings have yet to see an improvement since Savannah took over. Maybe Ann wasn’t the sole problem after all? Plus I found myself rooting for Hoda Kotb, who was reportedly in the running, to get the job.

    Matt Lauer is a Gigantic AZZ! I haven’t watched the Today Show since the day Ms. Curry announced her departure and I WON’T be watching it. Ann was Beautiful and a class act!!! It amazes me how the women of the news and morning shows have to jump through hoops to become lead anchors but White men continue to be elevated through the ranks regardless of what they look like or their skills. Lauer isn’t that great and he never has been! I watched Today because of Ms. Ann Curry and now I’ll be a faithful viewer of CBS This Morning. As far as Savannah Guthrie is concerned, I’ll give her 6 months.

    I personally quit watching many months ago because of MATT! He is a JERK! So, Matt hears a little bit of info for YOU…we no longer can tolerate you infantile egomaniac attitude…that is why ratings dropped!

    I don’t know what it is, but I suspect Ms Ann was a tad too formulaic and not giving enough spice to the show, unlike Katie Couric. She was therefore more suitable as a newsreader where she started, where not much of a personality was required. Not that she doesn’t have one, but not as good as Katie.

      I totally respect your opinion, however if you recall Ms. Couric was pushed out (fired) from her national news gig on CBS (Google her) due to ratings; I don’t think she changed between NBC and CBS. May I ask what spice you think Matt Lauer brings to the show besides as Lyn stated his egomaniac attitude, I say his narcissistic personality? I mean when it comes down to it, it’s a job. You don’t have to like people you work with but you need to be professional and respect one another. The fact that Ms. Ann Curry continued to come to work in the midst of the reports that she would be fired any time I believe is a True testament to her character, integrity and professionalism. Especially when you’re making the kind of money those folks make; there is no room for little boy temper tantrums! I still stand by my opinion of Matt being a GIGANTIC AZZ!!! I assure you when there’s no chemistry between him and Savannah Guthrie and the ratings continue to drop, Matt will throw another tantrum and Ms. Guthrie will be pushed out. When that happens please be sure to come back here and post a comment to inform me; I won’t know because I won’t be watching The Today Show period!

    Ann was not a good fit. I stop watchn Today when they put Palin on. Not sure about Savannah. Natalie may have been better. Meredith was the best. They may have to get her back. Truth is ABC and CBS are both getting better. Today is no longer king

    Funny how the men on Today become so full of themselves. Remember Bryant Gumbo? He had Jane Pauly fired when there was a dip in the ratings and look where his hubris got him….a little sports talk show with no where near the cachet of Today or ESPN.

    Personskly, I loved the humanity that Ann brought to her work even though I often was dismayed when she would ask successive questiions without giving the interviewee time to answer. It stinks that she was only given a year as cohost. NBC definitely dropped the ball in firing Ann and naming a replacement so quickly. They might want to look at the format of the show. Who cares about Lindsay Lohan and all those celebrities? I was oftened angered by the way anyone connected to George Bush was treated and thought everyone should have been treated to a modicum of respect! Many of my friends have turned the channel but I am not yet. Good luck, Ann Curry! Show them that you are a serious journalist, not a joke.

    I PERSONALLY DON’T THINK ANYONE CAN HELP MATT. THE GMA SHOW ROCKS!  AND HAS SO MUCH GOING FOR THEM IT IS HARD TO GO BACK TO THE TODAY SHOW. SORRY..BUT NOT ANN’S FAULT …SO SORRY SHE HAD TO GO THRU THAT AND THE WAY IT WAS DONE. ANN IS A WONDERFUL & BEAUTIFUL PERSON.

    Obviously, Matt wasn’t interested in having an AFFAIR w/ Curry, so he wanted her OUT. He cheated w/ Natalie. Why does Lauer’s wife put up w/ his b.s.? He’s sure not good looking w/ his balding head & his narcissistic ‘tude.
