Has Tom Cruise finally stopped drinking the extraterrestrial Kool-Aid??

An article in Star magazine, set to hit newsstands this coming Friday, is claiming that Cruise, 50, may be ready to move away from the Scientology cult church he’s been so adamantly involved with over the last several years.

“Tom hasn’t admitted that he’s definitely leaving Scientology for good,” an insider said. “But he’s distanced himself from those in the church and has been hanging out with good friends who aren’t part of the religion.”

In other words non-immortal beings.

Apparently Cruise has been contemplating how his role as one of Scientology’s most well-known supporters has affected his relationships. (Um, very badly Tom.)  Rumors still circulate that the church played a role in his romances, though the actor’s reps deny that allegation.

Tom has also been concerned about what role the “religion” may have played in the relationship between him and daughter Suri, Tom’s only biological child, down the road.  While Tom’s ex-wife Katie Holmes has  custody of their daughter, Tom has been a loving father to Suri and seems to want to continue being a big part of her life.

“Tom’s been leaning on friends who have different perspectives, getting advice on moving on from Katie as well as on everything he’s been going through with Scientology,” the insider said. “He’s finally seeing that being such an advocate for Scientology hasn’t served him as well as he’d hoped –he’s gone through three divorces, and his public perception has sunk to an all-time low.”

Though not with the alien population according to a little green person from the church of Scientology that visited me recently … Oh wait that was only a very scary dream.  *Phew!*
