The feud between David Letterman and Jay Leno has been going on for 20 years – ever since Jay was chosen to take over for Johnny Carson on the Tonight Show.
However, David, 65, has made things even clearer about his feelings for Jay, 62, on his sit-down interview with Oprah Winfrey’s on her Next Chapter program (airing Jan 6th on OWN).
“We were always friends before all of this happened,” Late Show host Letterman tells Winfrey. “He has a way…he’s an unusual fellow. I’ve never met anyone quite like Jay.”
David goes on to state that although there is turmoil he thinks, “Leno is “the funniest guy” he’s ever known. “If you go to see him do his nightclub act, [he's] just the funniest, the smartest, a wonderful observationist, and very appealing as a comic.”
But there’s more. David also adds: “Therefore, the fact that he is also maybe the most insecure person I have ever known…I could never reconcile that.”
Too bad, as David Letterman could probably use some pointers on how to be funny.
