While Beyoncé’s performance during the Super Bowl’s half-time show is being called a success, some are wondering if her former band mates weren’t purposely left in the dust to let the most famous member of the trio shine.
We were all excited when Michelle Williams and Kelly Rowland literally popped up to play back up to join Beyoncé on stage to perform a few Destiny’s Child songs for the show. It was great to see the three of them back on stage together, and it probably would have been nice to hear them all as well, but that wasn’t in the cards. Or at least not in the mics.
“It was difficult to hear the vocals of Rowland and Williams, either because of the microphone volumes or the background music,” stated Forbes. “Rowland and Williams were barely heard when the group sang Independent Woman, as their voices faded into the background,” noted CBS News. “I think Michelle and Kelly are pissed their audio was so low that they cut the wires on their way out,” quipped E! commentator Marc Malkin, regarding the power outage that followed the performance.
So what was actually going on? Were Kelly and Michelle’s microphones at lower volumes than Beyoncé’s? Was that the plan all along? Did B know about it beforehand, or was it all a plot to keep attention where it belonged- on Beyoncé’s Halo?. volume than Beyoncé’s? Was that the plan all along? Whatever the case, Michelle, for her part, thought the show was a hit; “Had a great time w/my sisters tonight!! Tried to keep it a surprise!! Love you all…God bless!!” she tweeted.
