The atypical romantic comedy, Warm Bodies, drew in $20 million this past weekend earning it the number one box office spot. The film, starring Nicholas Hoult, cost a little over $30 million to make and is the story of a zombie boy and a human girl, whose feelings for one another may just be the thing that saves them and the rest of the dead world.
Last week’s most popular film, Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters, dropped to second place earning only $9.4 million this weekend. This film will have to conjure up a bigger audience if it wants to surpass its $50 million budget.
Oscar nominated, Silver Linings Playbook, still isn’t ready to let go of its third place spot in the box office, bringing in another $8.1 million.
Academy Award nominated actress, Jessica Chastain, stayed on the radar even with all the football madness this weekend. Her films, Mama, and Zero Dark Thirty, round off the top five box office slots, with Mama coming in at fourth place this week earning another $6.7 million, and Zero Dark finishing in fifth making $5.3 million. Mama’s creepy plot has helped the film more than triple its $15 million budget, earning a little over $58 million to date.
