Amazing Spider-Man Makes $140 Million! Savages Flops at Box Office
There’s a new box office champ as the highly awaited The Amazing Spider-Man lived up to its hype!
Similar to its predecessors, the movie, which stars Andrew Garfield and his real life girlfriend Emma Stone, earned an amazing $65 million over the weekend, and a total of $140 million since its July 4 release. The movie is also a hit in other countries, earning a total of $341.2 million worldwide. Not bad as the earnings have already surpassed the movie’s $230 million budget.
Coming in second place this week was last week’s no. 1 movie Ted. Ted earned $35 million this weekend, with Pixar’s Brave coming in No. 3 after bringing in $20.2 million three weeks after its release.
The very hyped Oliver Stone thriller Savages, which stars Blake Lively and Taylor Kitsch unfortunately flopped at the box office, earning a mere $16.2 million. Things are not looking good for Savages which had a $45 million budget. Magic Mike put up strong numbers again, coming in fifth place with $15.6 million.
Another flop this weekend was Katy Perry: Part of Me concert documentary, which didn’t even make the top five, instead debuting at No. 7 with a disappointing $7 million. Not surprised as quite frankly, we’re a bit confused on why Katy felt she had enough star power or enough time in the industry to put out a documentary of this magnitude. The good news for Katy is that the movie only cost $12 million to make, so she’ll likely see a small return on her investment.
