Tom Cruise’s Involvement With Scientology & How It Led To His Divorce, Detailed In Tell-All Book

Author Lawrence Wright’s new tell-all book “Going Clear: Scientology, Hollywood, and the Prison of Belief,” tells an interesting tale of money, manipulation, and guys named Tom who believe in weird alien cult stuff.

The controversial book also goes into detail about how big a role Scientology played in the divorce between Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman- a topic which has been discussed, almost ad nauseam, throughout the years.

According to Lawrence, the church’s current leader David Miscavige became “bedazzled by the glamour surrounding” Tom in the early nineties.  Tom was equally compelled by David and “fell under the spell of Miscavige’s commanding personality.”  (This already reached creepy status.)  In an effort to win over Tom and then wife Nicole, David engulfed the couple with a “completely deferential environment as spotless and odorless as a fairy tale,” and after learning of a fantasy the couple shared involving running around like crazies in a field of wildflowers, David went to great lengths to make their fantasy a dream come true.

However, according to once high-ranking church official, Marty Rathbun, David freaked out when the couple started drifting away from the church in the mid-nineties and blamed Nicole, whom he saw as a “gold digger who was “faking” Scientology, thus began David’s dastardly plan to break the marriage up.  Dun, dun, dun!

Marty claims that David hoped to convince the actor that his wife was a “Suppressive Person,” in order to get him back into the thick of things.  According to David’s former brother-in-law, John Brousseau, things went so far as the couple’s children taking classes on how to identify a Suppressive Person.  At one point the kids allegedly told John, who lived in the Cruise-Kidman household for some time, that their mom was “an S.P.!” and they “hated” going and seeing her.

Lawrence writes that after the divorce between Tom and Nicole, Tom became even more dedicated to the church and he and David grew closer.  Even creepier.

As for as the short-lived relationship between Tom and aspiring actress Nazanin Boniadi- David was supposedly also responsible for that break-up.  Apparently David had it with Nazanin, who allegedly auditioned for the role of Tom’s cover girlfriend, when she asked him to repeat himself, as she couldn’t understand whatever stupid crap he was saying.  Lawrence writes about the incident and how Tom lectured Nazanin; “You don’t get it, it goes like this,” Cruise said. He raised his hand over his head. “First there’s LRH.” He moved his hand down a few inches. “Then there is COB.”  Bringing his hand down to his own eye level, he said, “Then there’s me.”

By the mid-2000’s his holiness, I mean Tom, was considered the unofficial Ethics Officer of Hollywood.   L. Ron Hubbard would have been so proud.
